Makeni College of Education

Makeni College of Education is a leading teacher training institution committed to producing qualified professionals for diploma-level programs in both Primary and Secondary education. The college is registered under the Ministry of Education and affiliated to the University of Zambia.

In addition to teacher education, our institution also houses a Vocational Training Department accredited by Technical Education Vocational And Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA). As one of Zambia’s premier institutions, we are dedicated to shaping the educators and skilled professionals of tomorrow.

The department was established with a vision to become a center of academic excellence and moral integrity. It serves as a beacon of high-quality education and career-focused training. Our Vocational Training Department emphasizes hands-on learning and competency-based education designed to prepare students for immediate employment, entrepreneurship, or further studies in technical and vocational fields.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS :-

Teacher Training

Our core mandate is to train high-quality, reflective, and committed teachers for both Primary and Secondary education. We offer the following programs:

  • Diploma in Primary Teaching – Duration: 3 years
  • Diploma in Secondary Teaching – Duration: 3 years, with the following subject combinations:
    • Science (standalone)
    • Social Studies with Physical Education
    • Mathematics with Computer Studies
    • Mathematics with Physical Education

Vocational Training Programs

Our Vocational Training Department offers skill-based programs that promote entrepreneurship and employability. These programs run for six (6) months and include:

  • Food Production
  • Computer Studies
  • Fashion Design and Textile Technology
  • Electrical Technology

These programs are practical, flexible, and aligned with TEVETA and industry standards to prepare students for real-world challenges.

AGE LIMIT

Our programs are open to individuals aged 16 years and above. There is no upper age limit. We welcome learners of all ages who are passionate about gaining new skills and improving their livelihoods.

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

Enrolling in either our Teacher Training or Vocational Training programs is straightforward and flexible. Follow these steps:

  1. Obtain an Application Form – Available at the College Registrar’s Office.
  2. Submit the Completed Form– Include academic transcripts/certificates (where applicable), a copy of your National Registration Card (NRC), two passport-size photos, and medical records.
  3. Admission Letter – Successful applicants will receive an official admission letter with course start dates.
  4. Registration and Orientation– Complete registration by paying the required fees and attend a short orientation session.
